Pippa’s Pasteria Haarlem

Organic, child-friendly restaurant with good food

A bright pink banner right next to the bus-stop in Haarlem station has attracted my attention and I thought, who’s gonna eat there with a bus-terminal’s view?

A month later, we’ve become a returned customer of this lovely family-friendly restaurant.

Location-wise it is very handy, right in-between Haarlem station and the city. It is a huge restaurant, extremely spacious and perhaps that’s why they can afford to have a dedicated play area.

Finding a children’s corner in restaurants in Haarlem is not easy and let alone a fully equipped one. They have a huge train/car table, several wooden horses, an electronic (huge) one and a drawing corner. The electronic horse is for free although it is quite noisy to have it on. I could let my 2 year-old playing there freely while she can always be in sight.

Their food is nice and all are organic. They are linked with Jetties, another child-friendly organic café in Haarlem.

I’m not writing on commission for them but I’d love to see such lovely place surviving as kids’ friendly restaurants are really lacking in Haarlem.

Haarlem library

Visiting the Haarlem library in the centre is one of our favourite activities, for both sunny and rainy days.
Loads of lovely books for all ages – literally from newborn onwards. Very child-friendly settings with low shelves for kids to explore on their own. The librarian told me that they do clean the baby books regularly.
The library also holds regular activities, either for free or for a small fee for kids as well as for adult.
Membership for up to age of 18 is free.

The Central library is opened 7 days a week with a cafe, Coffee-Star, in front. A really lovely place to chill out especially when sun is out there.

Stadkweektuin

The Stadskweektuin, located in the Kleverpark's area in Haalrem, offers a combination of a well-managed garden, a little farm with goats, chickens, birds and other small animals, and a free access playground with facilities suitable for young kids. The Stadskweektuin is not only popular among pre-schoolers but also for school outings. The cow statues on the grass field right behind the entrance gate is also very popular with older kids.

Garden festivals are held twice annually offering kids activities and stalls to buy local gardening products and plants from. These festivals are popular especially when the weather is nice! Parking could be an issue so grab the bike if that's an option for you.
